We have a few coverage options for tiny homes:
- Option 1 – as an RV
- Option 2 – as a dwelling (best way)
- Option 3 – as an Inland Marine [no liability]
- Option 4 – for a builder as an inland marine [show house]
We use Option 2 90% of the time and it has a 50 mile from coast wind exclusion. Option 3 has some wind exclusions.
We get a lot of questions about tiny homes in coastal areas. For starters, all named storms are excluded. This means if the tropical storm or hurricane is so substantial that it’s been given a name by the National Hurricane Center of the National Weather Service, then it is excluded from your coverage. This continues until 72 hours following the termination of the storm warning or watch issued.
Exclusion – Loss or damage caused directly or indirectly by a named tropical windstorm or hurricane is not covered in your policy. Such loss or damage is excluded regardless of other causes or events that contribute to or aggravate the loss, whether such causes or events act to produce the loss before, at the same time as, or after the excluded cause.
Excluded Locations – There are some excluded counties in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia. Please contact our Personal Lines Specialist Andrea Paston (Andrea@mystrategicinsurance.com) for more details.
